Tree Roo Rescue & Conservation Centre
June 2019
Our generous visitors helped us raise $570 for the Tree Roo Rescue & Conservation Centre.
The Lumholtz’s Tree Kangaroos, as the name suggests are tree-dwelling, leaf eating kangaroos. They are 1 of 2 tree kangaroo species found only in Australia’s Wet Tropics. There are 14 other species in Papua New Guinea. Lumholtz’s Tree Roos are found from the Daintree River to the Herbert River gorge in Australia’s Wet Tropics. They are most common in rainforest fragments of the Atherton Tablelands.
Classified as ‘Near Threatened’, habitat loss is their biggest threat, but an increasing number of Lumholtz’s Tree Roos are being killed by dogs and hit by cars when moving from tree to tree on the ground or between forests.
The Tree Roo Rescue & Conservation Centre are a non-profit organisation that rescues and rehabilitates, orphaned, injured or displaced tree kangaroos for release back into the wild or, it that’s not possible, for life in captivity as breeding animals for education and conservation in Zoos.
